A vision was put in place by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and strides have been made but more work is needed politically, socially and economically to achieve the Dream. As we believe in the vision, our ability will bring it to fruition.
— Oakland County Commissioner Nancy Quarles

It was an honor to be recognized as the first African American elected to the office of State Senator in Oakland County since the county was founded nearly 200 years ago. I strongly encourage our minority youths to get involved in politics and make a difference while shaping politics in state government that impact our communities. Hopefully, it will not take 200 more years before another minority gets elected to the office of State Senator in Oakland County.
— Senator Vincent Gregory, The first African American Elected State Senator in Oakland County
